Favorite Finds: January Edition

As cliche as it sounds, January literally flew by. With a great start to the new year with friends and family, first flight with Little S, setting resolutions and intentions for the year, Sankranthi celebrations, the first snow of the year and few sick days, January 2020 started off with a bang! Before the month ends, I wanted to get my “Favorite Finds” series back. Here, I am sharing my favorite things I learned or discovered during the month that could help you as well.

So, here you go!

BLINKIST

How the App looks.

Since I already have Audible subscription, I hesitated to buy another audiobook subscription but I don’t think I am going to regret this one. Blinkist is an app that summarizes thousands of non-fiction books(my favorite genre). The summary of each book (called “blinks”) is available in audio and written format on the app which can be read in about 15 minutes. I love reading books on personal development and behavioral science and wondered if I can have the best of those books in a crisp form without having to read the entire book. Blinkist gives exactly that. I read/listened to about 20 books on this app this month during my morning walks, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I am not encouraging this app as a substitute for reading a full book but recommend it as a value add. Do try it!

AMMA TODAY BLOG

ammatoday.com is Vaishali’s blog on Montessori and has easily become my parenting reference source. One of the many things I was excited about having a baby is to learn all things new right from the start of a new life. Every day is learning with children right from understanding what their cry means each time and I am loving motherhood for this very reason. Inspiring me to start reading to Little S, introducing the Montessori method right from a young age, educating about mindful parenting and sharing real-life experiences with her daughter V, Vaishali’s Instagram account and blog have it all. She has inspired and motivated many moms like me. Go check her out. Her Montessori activities recommendations are my favorite.

NIXPLAY DIGITAL PHOTO FRAME

I mentioned here about how a digital photo frame is a great system to stay organized. It not only helps avoid photo clutter at home but also lets your memories flash right in front of your eye and share it with others. This is a great addition to your living room and one of my favorite functional decor pieces. I love our new Nixplay digital photo frame which lets me transfer pictures to the frame instantly via App. Do you remember the good old days, when you have a negative reel washed and your photos are ready in a day? That’s how I feel.

ONE LINE A DAY JOURNAL

Picture of the book from Amazon

As a child, I used to write a diary every day. So, with hope, to revive that habit but in a simpler and efficient way, I bought this journal at the end of 2018. Each page of the journal includes an entry for five successive years. This allows me to revisit my thoughts on a specific day of the year over the span of five years, and reflect on change and progress. I started writing from Jan 2019 but shelved it after a few months. But, re-started with it this January. I am already loving to read what I did the same day last year and hoping not to give up this year. I now wish I wrote every day last year.

If you found any of the above interesting, do let me know and share it with others. Have a great February!
